Mobile Video Ad Viewership is Skyrocketing
Mobile is the fastest growing device for video, according a recent Freewheel study. In Q4 of 2013, video views on mobile devices were up 178% from the previous year. Video views were also up 136% on tablet devices.
Neilson data suggests that the audience for mobile video is growing three times faster than that for time-shifted TV. In Q3 of 2013, the audience for mobile video grew 38% from the previous year, as compared to 11% for time-shifted TV and flat growth for traditional TV. Neilson reports that the current US audience for mobile video is 53.1 million people.
Despite the increasing prominence of mobile, only 10-15% of all video ads currently show up on mobile devices. Make sure you use a vendor that can tailor video ads to not only work on mobile (HTML5) but also look great, by allowing for customized screen size and rich interactivity. Moreover, make the most of your mobile ad by adding mobile-specific interactivity, such as “tap for directions” or “tap to call.”
