Product Update: New Outstream Video Ad Formats

This month Mixpo launched a new suite of outstream video ads in the platform. Video Pushdown and In-Content Video Reveal are the first two of four new outstream formats to be released by year-end. Outstream ad formats provide additional ways to reach audiences with video assets outside of in-stream and in-banner video formats. The new formats are:

  • Viewable by design, as the ad only loads when in-view
  • Unlocks a new trove of quality video inventory
  • Metrics including average percent viewed, minutes watched, and user interactions
  • User-first experience available on both mobile and desktop

Outstream ads appear organically as part of text content consumption and expand and come into view based on user actions. They play only when in view, with audio-off as the default. These ads show a video, and upon completion have an end card that appears with a CTA, a replay option, and a 5 second countdown before the ad collapses.

Campaign managers can create an outstream ad in less than five clicks, without the need to enter the creative studio. However, the studio is available for those who wish to add additional functionality or change default copy settings:

  • Studio Functionality: All studio functionality (overlays, interactive and dynamic features) can be used on these ad formats. These can be used to add a persistent CTA to the video ad.
  • Change end card copy: All ads have an end card that will appear for 5 seconds, with a CTA “Learn More” linking to the clickthrough URL. This copy can be changed.
  • Expansion Options: The default expansion setting of these ad formats is to auto-expand when in view. Optionally, the ad can be set to always auto-expand, regardless of whether it is in view.
  • Background Click Options: The default click action of these ad formats is to toggle play/pause when the viewer clicks on the video. Optionally, the ad can be set to a click resulting in a clickthrough.

Last month Mixpo surveyed advertisers and agencies to find out what they think about outstream video advertising. We found that 71% see adoption of outstream video ads increasing in the next year. To learn more about outstream video advertising here.
