12 Days of #MixpoLifeHacks

This year Mixpo is doing our own take on the 12 Days of Christmas. Each day we’ll unwrap a present better than 10 Lords a-Leaping - a #MixpoLifeHack. If your hover board blows up over the holidays, rest assured that #MixpoLifeHacks will be here to help launch you in 2016!

On the first day #MixpoLifeHack gave to me: LetMeGoogleThatForYou
Inspired by Jim Garvin (@coderifous) during a lunch conversation with friends, LMGTFY was built for all those people who find it more convenient to bother you with their question rather than google it for themselves. Next time you get a dumb question, enter the question into LMGTFY and send the URL as a response. Hopefully you’ll shame them into never asking you dumb questions again.

On the second day #MixpoLifeHack gave to me: Elevator Express
Sick of stopping at every floor on the way up or down an elevator? Press and hold your destination floor number + the close door button at the exact same time to get up or down without stopping.

On the third day #MixpoLifeHack gave to me: Clear Your Cache
If this is a duh already, we love you! If not, just do it. Clearing your cache and cookies will maximize your browser’s speed and performance, and ensure you’re viewing the most recent web pages (or in our case, ads).

Pro tip: Clearing your cache in between searches for flights ensures you’re getting the newest — and potentially cheapest — prices.

On the fourth day #MixpoLifeHack gave to me: Pro Rider

Riding into the sunset? Put a strip or two of black electrical tape along the top edge of your visor to shield your eyes from the sun. Riding in hot weather? Soak your t-shirt with water, put your jacket on and open the vents in it. Voilà! A/C while you ride.

On the fifth day, #MixpoLifeHack gave to me: A Clean Inbox
You’re inbox is not a to-do list! Use a three-folder system to keep e-mail under control:

  • Reply: All emails go in here that take longer than 2 minutes to respond to
  • Waiting: All emails go in here where you are waiting for a response or want to process later
  • Archive: All other emails go in here that you want to be able to access later

On the sixth day, #MixpoLifeHack gave to me: Automated Facebook Reports
Facebook’s reporting UI has inexplicably become more cumbersome and time consuming. Customize the columns to reflect the KPIs that are important to you once and save it, you’ll definitely thank yourself later.

PRO TIP: Have your automated report emailed to you daily, weekly or monthly.

On the seventh day, #MixpoLifeHack gave to me: Diapers in a Jiffy
For the tech-savvy toddler parent, when in a pinch without any diapers, simply 3D print some up for that little squirt!

On the eighth day, #MixpoLifeHack gave to me: Productivity

Do you know how productive you are week by week? With so many distractions and possibilities in your digital life, it’s easy to get scattered. @RescueTime helps you understand your daily habits so you can focus and be more productive. Use the free version to track time spent on applications and websites, giving you an accurate picture of your day.

Pro Tip: Set an alarm to tell you when you spent more than 2 hours on Facebook.

On the ninth day, #MixpoLifeHack gave to me: Push vs. Pull

Save yourself the second humiliation of trying to simply open a door by always knowing whether to pull or push. In public buildings doors open in the direction of an escape route. Headed towards the elevators or stairs? Try push. Headed to a corner of the building? Try pull.

On the tenth day, #MixpoLifeHack gave to me: An Organized Office
MacGyver’s favorite tool was the paperclip. Use binder clips from around the office for storage and organization.

On the eleventh day, #MixpoLifeHack gave to me: Let there be light
Feeling grouchy? For those of us in Seattle, the darkest day in December was recorded this month for as long as we’ve been keeping records of such things. Combat the winter blues by using a full spectrum lamp when you get ready in the morning. The small dose of simulated sunlight helps combat Seasonal Affective Disorder, stimulating your body to produce some of the vitamin D that it misses due to lack of sunlight.

On the twelfth day, #MixpoLifeHack gave to me: Better Facebook Campaigns
Utilize Facebook’s campaign spend cap to better manage budgets. To maximize Facebook campaign performance, increase your ad set’s budget beyond your intended spend level but ensure the campaign spend cap is in place. This allows you to optimize ad spend to best performing ad sets, without blowing your budget.
